At Project Acai, we blend our acai manually in small batches using Sambazon Superfruit packs. While this process is certainly more time-consuming and labour intensive, as a dedicated and acai focused café, we wouldn’t choose to do it any other way*. Blending frozen acai is a practice that has been in place since acai first made its way out of Brazilian shores in the late 90s, and is still widely practiced today.
One of the reasons we fell in love with acai was because of how versatile it is; you can blend it with any type of fruit, using your choice of juice, mylk or coconut water, and still get a really great end product. Our house-blend uses tons and tons of acai and a little bit of fruit, ensuring you get as much acai in your bowl as possible.

The acai berry grows wild atop palm trees native to the Amazon rainforest. Its taste is often described as a blend of wild berries and dark chocolate (mmm!). The berry is as tiny as a small grape, with only 10 to 15% edible fruit (the rest being seed). For these little berries to travel all the way to our city from Brazil, you can bet it packs a punch.
Acai ranks off the charts in its concentration of antioxidants, omegas 3, 6 and 9, is high in fibre and extremely low in sugar, together with a whole host of nutritional goodness. In this way, acai helps fight free radical damage, prevents heart disease, cancer, overall inflammation and even helps with energy levels and delays signs of aging!
The acai fruit has up to 10 times more antioxidants than blueberries, is a great vegan source of essential heart fats, and also helps to control cholesterol. It's high in fibre, and low GI, allowing you to feel satisfied even with a small portion.
